Danielle G. Van Ess enjoys the privilege of working with people of all ages, in all stages of
life, from all types of families, through referrals from enthusiastic
clients to their friends and family members. She finds great
satisfaction helping people add to, protect, and move their families.
A wife and mother (of three children five years and under) herself, Danielle is particularly sensitive to the
time constraints and pressing legal needs of young families and does
her best to make the process of obtaining legal assistance as painless
as possible for her clients. She understands that the process can be
intimidating for her clients, most of whom also tend to be busy parents of
young children. Danielle strives to create an empowering
and fulfilling experience by helping her clients through their
particular matters in a friendly and relaxed manner.
Her law practice is holistic, compassionate, and environmentally
conscientious. Danielle truly enjoys the counseling that is so much a
part of her law practice. She wants her clients to feel comfortable
contacting her with whatever questions or concerns they have, whenever
it is convenient for them, without fear of incurring additional
charges, so she charges a flat, rather than hourly, fee. Danielle's
clients also know they have developed a lasting relationship with their
lawyer to whom they can turn for assistance whenever the need arises.
Originally from Boston's North Shore, Danielle earned her B.A. with honors from The George Washington University in Washington, DC. In 1998, Danielle moved back to Boston to attend law school, some said naively, with a genuine desire to help people. During law school, Danielle assisted survivors of violence seeking protection from abuse and young children subjected to extreme abuse and neglect. After earning her J.D. from Boston University School of Law in May of 2001, Danielle passed the Virginia Bar Exam in July and was licensed and sworn into the practice of law.
Danielle then spent seven years working as a lawyer for national nonprofit organizations to help survivors of domestic violence, stalking, and sexual assault, and their children. She concentrated especially on the enforcement of protection, divorce, and custody orders across jurisdictional lines and the related state and federal firearms laws. For the last two of those years, after relocating back to Massachusetts with her family, she maintained a special focus on violence against Native American women and their families.
In 2007 and newly resettled from Boston to the South Shore, Danielle decided to obtain her license to practice law in Massachusetts as well to pursue her dream of starting a solo practice, "DGVE law." In the interest of providing her clients high quality, genuinely helpful legal services while simultaneously providing her own family flexibility and stability, she decided to shift practice areas. Danielle is very grateful for and inspired by the support of her husband and the love of their daughters.
Danielle is bilingual in English and Spanish. She has also studied a few years each of French, Italian, and (informally) Portuguese and hopes to speak those with fluency some day too!
